Are you a Talker or a Doer?

In business I have found that there are two distinct types of people: "Talkers" and "Doers"

Talkers are the ones who are always talking. They seem to have a constant flow of ideas and the enthusiasm to share them. Talkers are instrumental in the conception of many great ideas that make the business world so exciting. They are the dreams which build the foundations of the businesses.

Doers are the ones translate the concept into the product. In a factory setting this would be the equivalent of the engineer handing the blueprints to the die maker and saying, "Now, make it work!." They are the essential part of any business or venture. Without a doer an idea has no chance.

I find that most business owners would be classified as talkers. They always have ideas and cannot wait to tell you about them, but they do not have the ability, skill, or time to actually complete the idea. This type of behavior can be frustrating to the Doer; It takes time away from production, testing, and completion of the concept.

The Doers concentrate on the task at hand. They have very little patience for Talkers. Talkers will always search out a Doer to complete their idea and will talk the Doers ear off every chance they get hoping to peak their interest and get them to actually do the project for them.

By now, you have probably either classified yourself as a Talker, a Doer, or realized there may be one other type of person a TaDoer: A mixture of both a Talker and a Doer. (Ok, I made that one up, but it does describe the third type.) This is a very rare and sought after type of person. They have the capability of taking the concept and following through to completion. They have the skill to not only describe the idea, but conceptualize the process to complete it.

Next time you are talking business, or going through the hiring process, take the time to decide if the person you are talking to is a Talker, a Doer, or a TaDoer.
